milborne port search ... general links walks wwi role of honour pcso bulletin board test menu venue booking church house town hall village hall camelot room susan parsons room village diary news news archive parish council village hall heritage galleries parish plan contact site login / register skip to content you are here: fuschia in victoria terrace garden woodland milborne port town hall at sunset venn house countryside around milborne port from the air children's playground at gainsborough wild flowers in grove garden see-urgent-news-here newsletter 3rd july 2018 print email july has started off with sunny weather and it looks set to stay for the first few weeks of this month. june was a busy month and it looks as though july will follow suite. the village fete and party @ the port were both a huge success. thank you to all who attended or helped at these two very important, village events. a special “thank you” to steve davis who always plays a big part in clearing up after these events and who was awarded an bem in the queen’s birthday honours list at the end of june. there is much going on in our village in the month of july in addition to all the regular clubs and classes which you can see in the diary . we start the month, on 3th july, with a talk from lotte dale from “the university of the third age” on her 1200 parachute jumps @ henstridge village hall at 2.30pm. the parish council has again this year entered our village into the south west in bloom competition. judging is on 10th july. we have done exceptional well in the past couple of years, so please, please do your bit to tidy up your hedges and pick up litter. the wi have their next meeting on 12th july at 7.30pm when the speaker will be giving a talk entitled 'pets are a pleasure'. friday 13th july is anniversary day for our library and friends of milborne port library (fompl) will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the opening of the library in cross cottage. anniversary day will be between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm, you are invited to drop in and enjoy a drink of fizz (alcoholic and non-alcoholic!) and nibbles. the following day, saturday 14th |july, the summer reading challenge is launched. this is swiftly followed by the milborne port history and heritage group meeting on monday july 16th at 7.30 in church house. dr carol beardmore will be giving a talk about the tripartite relationship between the land agent, the landowner, and the franchised villagers of milborne port between 1815 and 1854. this month they are having a number of interesting walks around the village, starting on monday 2nd july, meeting at the weighbridge at 7.00pm. we have st john’s church summer fete on saturday 21st july, starting at 2.00pm. a great, village event so come along and enjoy a magic show, a display of fine, handmade quits, many stalls and refreshments on the church lawn. this year mike fisher will kindly open it. art for memory will be holding sessions on tuesdays between 10 am – 12 noon in the camelot room, milborne port village hall. the news pages are continually updated with information about the village as are the parish council pages . on the news pages there is currently information about the forthcoming housing survey, progress on a pedestrian crossing, the new general data protection legislation (gdpr) and how to prevent cyber scams. looking to august and a great activity for all is the duck racing at goathill on saturday 11th august between 2 and 4.30pm. newsletter - 27th may 2018 print email a mixed bank holiday weekend of weather, but let us hope that the promised fine afternoon for saturday 2 nd june is fulfilled so the village can make the most of the village fete and party @ the port, starting at 1pm at the springfield road rec., but with a fancy dress judging at 12:15 at the primary school. after the dust has settled, there is much more going on in our village in the month of june in addition to all the regular clubs and classes which you can see in the diary . on 11 th june starting at 10am, there will be a presentation at the village hall to help drivers keep up to date with changing roads and cars. called route 60+ it is aimed at more senior drivers, but you do not have to be in this age bracket to come along and benefit. the wi discuss their goings on and look forward to a talk about jonathan toogood, who founded the bridgewater hospital. the heritage group will be learning about goathill on 18 th june and of course, the heritage museum at the milborne port cemetery is open every sunday in the summer. the friends of milborne port library have their agm on 20 th june at the library, by which time the consultation on the uncertain future of county libraries will have closed, to at the moment there is still time to have your say. they also report on ill deeds and murder at the library !! around the corner from the library, clog dancing at the tippling philosopher is there to get your feet tapping on 25 th june. finally in the diary, jo burt will be performing at the village hall on 30 th june in the latest of a series of live music events there. the news pages are continually updated with information about the village as are the parish council pages . on the news pages there is currently information about road closures, the new general data protection legislation (gdpr) and how to prevent cyber scams. looking over the month end, if you are a fan of fetes, the church fete will take place in july. newsletter - 28th april 2018 print email there is lots going on as always in our village in may and we have picked out many of the things extra to the routine, below. we start with a warning, that in the first week of may, part of gainsborough will be closed to traffic . the parish council annual meeting, where the council elects its chairperson for the year will take place on may 1 st . you can see the agenda, minutes of the previous meetings and summaries in the form of our “news from the council chamber” on the parish council pages . the parish council receives some thanks from the milborne port primary school as they report on a very busy time. on may 3 rd , the bells will again sound to commemorate a soldier lost in the great war, this time, thomas richard bliss . still thinking about the past, the heritage museum will begin its summer opening and on 6 th may will display “the high street through the years”. they have also a full programme of talks and walks, with cadbury castle being the focus on 21 st may. the wi report on their activities and the upcoming agm on the 10 th of the month. saturday 12 th may promises to be a busy day, with the gardening club have their plant sale by the weighbridge, after which you can pop to charlton horethorne for a ploughman’s lunch with our mp, david warburton , and then back to milborne port for an evening concert at the village hall played by the band of hms heron (rnas yeovilton). if you have stamina after that, on sunday evening, the mill singers , along with the braintree male voice choir will be performing in our parish church. yet another agm on the 16 th may with the village hall agm at the camelot room of the village hall. the final concert of the month will take place again at the village hall when canadian singer ian sherwood will perform there. of course, the village hall is not all about performance as many clubs and societies meet there including a series of clubs for the younger members of the village with wiggles & giggles and youth groups to name but a few. for people who wish to be active outdoors there are the regular health walks in addition to the heritage walks but as we move towards summer, the cricket club list their early fixtures following their successful jumble sale. the friends of milborne port library remain exercised about the library consultation and remind us that it is not too late to have your say. the diary is available to update you on the regular and one off events in the village. finally, the may editio
